Sixteen wind projects were submitted for the RFP, mostly located in Maine, as well as New Hampshire and New York State. Some were already-announced projects and some were new.
The developers that bid for wind are SunEdison, Invenergy, EDP Renewables North America, EverPower Wind, NextEra Energy, Iberdrola, Patriot Renewables, Eolian Renewable Energy and Walden Green Energy.
The selections will be made later this year, and the projects must be online by 2020.
Utilities and agencies in Connecticut, Massachusetts and Rhode Island jointly issued the solicitation.
They are: Eversource, National Grid, the United Illuminating Company, Massachusetts Department of Energy Resources and Connecticut Department of Energy & Environmental Protection.
The largest wind proposal is SunEdison’s newly proposed 600MW King Pine project in Maine. Also sizeable are two projects already going through the permitting stage: 400MW from Invenergy's 400-445MW Bull Run in New York state, and EDP Renewables' expanded 400MW Number Nine, in Maine.
NextEra’s 216MW Alder Stream and 245MW Moose wind projects in Maine would include 25MW/ 100.3MWh of storage.
In total, 22 bids were received, including solar, hydro and transmission.
New York state currently has 1,748MW of installed wind power capacity, Maine 614MW and New Hampshire 171MW, according to the Windpower Intelligence database.
