The Danish-headquartered global manufacturer's new factory was opened in Aquiraz, in the windy state of Ceara, by local dignitaries and Vestas Brazil general manager Rogerio Zampronha.

Vestas said the expansion would also help meet the 376MW of orders it received in 2015.

The new plant will produce hubs and nacelles for Vestas' V110 2MW turbine. The V110 won the 2015 Windpower Monthly Top Turbine up to 2.9MW award.

In December, Vestas regained its accreditation from Brazilian development bank BNDES after losing it initially in 2013.

The accreditation demonstrates Vestas has at least 70% local content sourcing for hub, nacelle, tower and blade manufacturing, under the Finame II code.

BNDES approval gives Vestas access to financing and tax breaks.
