Gallery: Turbine installation in French mountain region

FRANCE: RES has constructed a 22MW project in the Montagne Noire (Black Mountains) region of southern France, installing 11 Senvion turbines at a densely forested and mountainous site.

The Bois de la Serre project was completed in December 2015. It uses Senvion's MM92 2MW turbine with 49.2-metre blades.

The site is located in a mountainous and forested area with strong and turbulent winds, adding to the complexity of construction.

To avoid damaging or removing trees, and due to the steep slopes, Senvion installed the blades one by one instead of its usual technique of hoisting the entire rotor as one piece.

The German firm is also supplying RES with 26 MM82 2MW turbines for the 52MW Sambres project in the same region of France.

"We are very pleased to be building these two projects in the Black Mountain area using Senvion turbines that meet the specific requirements of these technically challenging sites," said RES southern Europe managing director Matthieu Guerard.
