Media outlets across Europe, including Bloomberg, were reporting up to 6,500 of job losses across the continent, including in France, Germany and the UK over the next two years as the company merges its businesses with the French firm.

However, a spokeswoman told Windpower Monthly that final decisions were yet to be made. "Our restructuring proposals would impact sites around the world.

"The consultation process is ongoing. There are no final decisions at this point. We are working with our employee representatives. We will communicate when final decisions will be taken," the spokeswoman said.

GE completed its €9.7 billion takeover of Alstom's division in November, following an agreement in 2014.

Alstom's wind business has been subsumed into GE. Alstom said the new division, called GE Renewables, would incorporate onshore and offshore wind, tidal and hydro activities.
