Currently, 17 Siemens 3MW turbines have been installed, with the first exporting power to the Dutch grid.

In total, 48 3MW turbines will be erected between 500 and 1,200 metres from the banks of the Ijsselmeer lake.

A joint venture between vessels firm Van Oord and cranes specialist Mammoet installed the first turbine using a floating crane vessel in August. Commissioning of the project is due in spring 2016.

The project is being developed by Westermeerwind BV and forms part of the larger Noordoostpolder wind complex in central Netherlands.

First power from Westermeerwind closely follows first power from the 90MW Zuidwester, also part of Noordoostpolder, last week.
