The project will comprise 50 V112-3.3MW turbines at the site, located 45 kilometres off the Belgian coast in the North Sea. The project is due online in 2017 and MHI-Vestas will service the turbines for 15 years.

MHI-Vestas was named preferred supplier for the project in January 2015. The order was confirmed after Nobelwind NV made a positive final investment decision on Friday, with funding provided in part by the European Investment Bank.

Vestas will manufacture the turbines for its offshore joint venture and the order will be added to the Vestas backlog. This was part of the deal when the joint venture with Mitsubishi Heavy Industries was formed.

Luxembourg-based vessels specialist Jan De Nul was awarded the construction contract to install foundations and turbines at the project in September. Danish firms Bladt Industries and Semco Maritime were also awarded the contract to supply the project's offshore substation.

Vestas' V90 and V112 3MW turbines were also selected for the 165MW Belwind 1 and 216MW Northwind developments respectively. The projects are owned by Parkwind NV, a partner in the Nobelwind NV consortium. Nobelwind NV also comprises investment firms Meewind and Sumitomo Corporation.

The firm order follows Siemens being selected as the preferred supplier for the 294MW Rentel project, also in Belgium, last week.
