A2Sea will install two 4MW turbines and the foundations for the vessel supplier's part owner Siemens, at the demonstration project located off Miaoli county, northwest Taiwan.
This is the first deal for a European offshore wind contractor to install turbines in Asia, according to A2Sea.
The Formosa wind project is being developed by Formosa Wind Power, a subsidiary of Swancor, a Taiwanese power generation and turbine blade resin production firm.
The M/V Torben installation vessel will be deployed in Taiwan for A2Sea's first project in Asia from June 2016. The vessel was formerly known as Friedrich Ernestine and is owned by Germany developer RWE.
A2Sea is part owned by Siemens Wind Power and majority-owner Dong Energy.
Siemens was awarded the contract to supply the turbines to Formosa in June and was named preferred supplier for the second 120MW phase, upon a positive final investment decision, in September.
In August, the government increased the country's offshore wind target from 3GW to 4GW by 2030, and adjusted its feed-in tariff (FIT) for offshore wind.
