Project partners Peel Energy and Belltown Power placed a 50.35MW deal with German manufacturer Nordex to supply turbines to the Frodsham Wind site.
The turbine is a variation on the N90 2.5MW model. Nordex explained the number of turbines at the site was initially set at 21 but following consultation with local parties was reduced to 19.
To enable the project to remain above 50MW, Nordex was able to increase the output of the turbine to 2.65MW. Delivery of the turbines is expected in Q2 2016.
Nordex CEO Lars Krogsgaard said the company would not enter the up-rated turbine into "bulk production".
"The wind in this region exhibits only minor turbulence and the climate is mild. This allowed our engineers to increase the turbine output," he said.
Frodsham Wind is the third Peel Energy project in the UK to use Nordex turbines.
