SwissEnergy acquires gearless manufacturer MTOI

SPAIN: Asset management company SwissEnergy has acquired MTOI Wind Turbines from Egyptian developer Elsewedy Electric for an undisclosed fee.

MTOI manufacturers 1.65MW gearless turbines

As part of the deal, SwissEnergy also acquired MTOI's production facility in Olvega and office in Pamplona, both in northern Spain.

MTOI is a Spanish wind manufacturer of gearless wind turbines. Its portfolio includes a 1.65MW model with three rotor sizes. According to SwissEnergy, the manufacturer is also set to launch a 2.5MW platform.

Developer Elsewedy began taking ownership of the manufacturer in 2008. MTOI has supplied turbines to Elsewedy projects across Africa, including Libya's first wind site in 2013.

Elsewedy was handed the license to build six 100MW projects by the Egyptian government in July last year.

SwissEnergy said it would work with Elsewedy to "aid one another in component delivery and service providing" for projects.
