In September 2013, Eriksen became group chief operating officer when the firm merged with GL Garrad Hassan.

Eriksen has been with DNV GL for over 20 years, including times as chief operating officer of DNV Energy and the group's Asia, Pacific and Middle East brand. He was also chief executive officer of DNV Maritime and Oil and Gas.

Madsen is retiring after being at DNV GL for over 30 years, including the last nine years as CEO.

Part of DNV GL's scope of work is to certify new technology to ensure it meets international standards.

This month, it was contracted by Siemens to carry out testing on its prototype 7MW offshore turbine in Denmark. It also handed MHI-Vestas type certification for its 8MW V164 offshore turbine.
