Burbo Bank Extension

Vessels contractor: A2Sea will provide its Sea Challenger vessel to Dong Energy's Burbo Bank Extension project. The 32 MHI Vestas 8MW turbines will be installed by the vessel from autumn 2016.

The 265MW Burbo Bank Extension is being developed to the west of the 90MW Burbo Bank in Liverpool Bay. It is due for completion in 2017. 24-Apr-15

Virginia Offshore Wind Technology Advancement Project

Pilot postponed: Dominion Virginia Power is looking to delay the 12MW Virginia Offshore Wind Technology Advancement Project (VOWTAP) by a year, while cost reductions are sought.

The projected cost was $230 million, but the sole bid received for building the two-turbine demo project was around $400 million.

Under the terms of a $47 million grant from the US Department of Energy, VOWTAP was due to be online by 2017. 24-Apr-15

Kriegers Flak

Routes mapped: Danish transmission operator has published a chart illustrating Kriegers Flak's preliminary cable routes, connections to Sweden and Germany and the planned platform positions.

The 600MW project is planned for a site in the Baltic Sea.

In September, the Danish authorities confirmed that they will delay the construction of the 600MW Kriegers Flak offshore wind farm by two years to 2021. The delay is as a result of negotiations to cut the public service obligation (PSO) levies on consumers' electricity bills. 24-Apr-15

Transmission commissioned: Siemens has commissioned the SylWin1 grid link and handed it over to Tennet. With testing completed, the 864MW link has entered into commercial operations, serving Butendiek and DanTysk. It is also due to serve Sandbank.

DanTysk and Butendiek each comprise 80 Siemens 3.6MW turbines, while Sandbank will comprise 72 Siemens 4MW turbines. Currently, over 100 of the turbines are grid connected and more are being connected almost daily.

Power is being transmitted from the wind farm sites in the North Sea west of Sylt, via the SylWin alpha platform and the 205km subsea and underground cable link to Buttel. 27-Apr-15

Sembmarine SLP has contracted Granada Material Handling to manufacture, deliver and commission two davit crane units for Dudgeon.

They will be fitted to the cable deck area of the 402MW project's transmission platform. Dudgeon is planned for a site in the North Sea off Norfolk.

Onshore construction activities for Dudgeon began in March 2015. Contractor Carillion started laying 47 kilometres of underground cable. 27-Apr-15

Triton Knoll

The Planning Inspectorate has received an application for Triton Knoll's electrical system. It has until 22 May to decide whether or not to accept it.

The electrical system comprises both onshore and offshore elements, with grid connection planned for a new substation at Bicker Fen, Lincolnshire.

Planned for a site in the North Sea, the 900MW Triton Knoll is being jointly developed by RWE Innogy and Statkraft. Statkraft bought into the project in February 2015. 27-Apr-15
