DEME partners Windreich on 400MW MEG 1

GERMANY: DEME Concessions has entered into a partnership with Windreich subsidiary Nordsee Offshore MEG 1 to jointly develop the MEG 1 offshore wind project in the German North Sea.

DEME will work as a developer of the project until financial close is reached. Following this the company will be involved in the construction and maintenance of the project, as well as its long-term funding.

Work on the 400MW project was originally intended to start in 2014, but Windreich filed for insolvency in 2013, delaying the project's progress. Since the development is yet to reach financial close, Windreich is probably motivated to partner with DEME in order to reassure investors of the soundness to the project.

MEG 1 is intended to be built 45 kilometres north of the island of Borkum. If it goes ahead, it will be made up of 80 Areva 5MW turbines, now rebranded as the Adwen AD 5-135 under the offshore joint venture between Areva and Gamesa.
