While Nordex would not reveal the name of the project or the developer, Windpower Monthly has learned that it is Enel's Gibson Bay project.

The project, located in the south of the country, will have 37 N117/3000 turbines, making it the first one in South Africa to be fitted with the company's Generation Delta turbines. The site has wind speeds of around 8 m/s.

In South Africa's first round of wind auctions, Nordex Energy South Africa, a subsidiary established by Nordex in 2012, was awarded the contract to supply the 100MW Dorper project, the 80MW Kouga project and the 134.4MW Amakhala project.

Including the Gibson Bay project, which Nordex won as part of the third round of auctions, the company has secured a total of 425.4MW in orders for projects in South Africa.
