The French cabling company will manufacture, supply and install around 60km of 380kV extra-high voltage cable and supply accessories and on-site services.

The 3GW Stevin link will improve West Flanders’ electricity supply, enable the connection of additional wind and solar capacity, bring offshore wind energy onland, and provide for a further interconnection with the Belgian grid, via the projected NEMO subsea connection to the UK. In February, ABB was contracted to supply switchgear to the project.

Philippe Gastineau, Nexans executive vice president land high voltage, said: "We are delighted to have been awarded this major contract for the Stevin project that further reinforces our long standing relationship with Elia as a partner for Belgium's grid reinforcement programme."
