The GW121 turbine is a permanent magnet direct drive (PMDD) turbine with a 121-metre rotor. It will join Goldwind's other turbines on its 2.5MW platform. The other turbines have 100-metre and 109-metre rotors.
Goldwind's new turbine will be used at IEC class III low wind sites across the Americas. The company said it already has 1GW in turbines from the 2.5MW platform installed.
Class III wind turbines operate in areas with an average wind speed of approximately 7.5 metres per second.
Goldwind Americas is a subsidiary of Chinese manufacturer Goldwind, which, according to the company statement, has 25GW of turbines installed or contracted worldwide.
