The new grout is capable of working at low temperatures (approximately two degrees celcius). Other cements often need a minimum tempreture of five degrees celcius to be effective. The lower temperature would prove beneficial in the cold North Sea.

FoundOcean said the grout and a new delivery technique was the result of three years collaboration with chemicals company BASF. Instead of being transported in bags, the new grouting will be transported in silos and lifted directly on to vessels.

The company's operations director, Paul Burns, said the silo technique reduces transport costs, saves time and increases safety by reducing the number of lifts required.

In November 2014, the two companies signed a strategic agreement to develop grouting products for the offshore market.

At the time, FoundOcean said BASF's MasterFlow 9500 is the only product to have obtained the type approval certificate from certifying body DNV GL.
