The project is being supported with a soft loan of up to JPY38.864 billion (EUR289 million) from the Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

Egypt is pushing ahead with wind energy deployment in the face of an increasing power shortage which is helping to fuel social unrest. The country is targetting 7.2GW of operating wind capacity in 2020.

According to Windpower Intelligence, the project is expected to come online in 2016.
