The work includes the installation of two cable sections with a combined length of 11 kilometres. The cables will be put in place in the transition area between the shallow and deep water sections on the transmission route.

VBMS will use its Stemat Spirit vessel to carry out the work as it is suited to working in both shallow and deep waters. Work is expected to start in mid-March.

The company has been handed the work by Van Oord, which has been contracted to install the transmissision system for the project, located 85 kilometres from the coast.

VBMS and Van Oord previously worked on the cabling for the 129MW Eneco Luchterduinen project also in the Dutch North Sea.

A consortium led by Northland Power - and including Van Oord – is developing Gemini. Preparatory construction work is underway.

The project is due to be commissioned in the first quarter of 2017.
