The classification group verified the turbine fulfilled its design modelling in terms of reliability, manufacturing and maintenance of main components. In 2012, Alstom installed at test turbine at a site in Le Carnet, northwest France.

Alstom said the certification is a "prerequisite" for the turbine to enter commercial operation.

An offshore prototype turbine has been installed at the Belwind II site off the coast of Belgium since November 2013. It is being tested for production, installation and commissioning procedures.

The Haliade is due to be used at the US's first offshore project, the 30MW Block Island project off Rhode Island, northeast US. Construction is planned to start in the next few months

EDF-EN has also contracted Alstom to supply the Haliade to three of its offshore projects being developed in France.
