The energy firm said that it expects to complete the fifth and final project, the 495MW Highland development, by the end of the year.

MidAmerican, a utility owned by Warren Buffet's Berkshire Hathaway company, has now completed Lundgren in Webster County, Macksburg in Madison County, Wellsburg in Grundy County, and Vienna II in Marshall County. These projects total 556MW.

The Wind VIII project was announced in May 2013 and represents an investment by MidAmerican of around $1.9 billion. Siemens was signed up to supply its 2.3MW turbines for all of the projects.

In November 2013, Facebook signed up to source the energy for its new data centre in Iowa from the 138.6MW Wellsburg wind project, part of the Wind VIII development.
