HiDef will use high-resolution aerial video surveys to determine how the turbines would affect a Red Throated Diver bird species.
The survey will cover both the proposed project's site, seven kilometres off the coast, and the wider Liverpool Bay area off northwest England.
HiDef said the surveys might continue into the operational phase of the project which was approved in September. Commissioning is expected in 2017.
The 256MW project will use 32 MHI-Vestas V164-8MW turbines – the first commercial project to use the platform.
