BOEM moved the cut-off date for public comment back from 2 January to 16 January. Dominion Virginia Power is developing the 12MW Virginia Offshore Wind Technology Advancement Project (VOWTAP).
The government agency said its EA report looks at environmental and socioeconomic impacts of an offshore wind project on the area.
If it goes ahead, the research site is due to use two 6MW Alstom Haliade turbines. It is planned for 44 kilometres off the Virginina coast, next to a commercial lease area.
Developer Dominion began testing at the site in July 2014, using a jack-up vessel to drill 15 borings in order to gather seabed samples between the project area and the coastline along the proposed cable route.
