Ailes Marines plans 8MW Gamesa-Areva for 2019

FRANCE: Ailes Marines, the Iberdrola-led consortium awarded the 500MW St-Brieuc project, has outlined a revised timetable if it gets the go ahead to install Areva-Gamesa 8MW turbines instead of the 5MW machines originally planned.

If all goes to plan, Ailes Marines will start preparatory work and secure financial close in 2017. Turbine installation will take place late 2019 to 2020 and the plant should be fully operational by the end of that year.

Under the original tender terms, commissioning was scheduled to take place in three phases from 2018 to 2020.

The consortium received conditional approval in early November, but is still waiting for the environment minister to confirm the upgrade.

Once that is approved, Ailes Marines will have until October 23 2015 to submit its application to occupy the maritime domain and seek authorisation under environmental law, a year later than specified in the tender.

The public enquiry will take place early 2016, with government consent due by the end of the year.
