Seaway expects to use its Stanislav Yudin crane vessel to install the substation during 2016 at the site 100 kilometres north-west of the island of Sylt. The substation platform consists of a jacket, skirt piles and deck.
Once operational, it will convert the electricity produced by the turbines into high-voltage direct-current power for transmission to the SylWin Alpha platform and, from there, to shore.
Bladt Industries, which has been chosen to manufacture the substation, was responsible for selecting the Cyprus-based vessel operator the contract.
Sandbank will be made up of 72 Siemens 4MW turbines, and is due to come online in 2017. It is being developed by Vattenfall and Stadtwerke München.
In June, Seaway completed the installation of the substation at the 210MW Westermost Rough project in the UK. It also installed the platform at the 288MW Meerwind Sud/Ost project in Germany in April.
