Siemens installs 6MW offshore turbine onshore

GERMANY: Siemens has installed two of its 6MW offshore turbines at an onshore site near Wilhelmshaven on the German North Sea coast.

Two Siemens 6MW offshore turbines have been installed at an onshore project

Project owner Bioenergie Nord picked the offshore turbine to be used at the onshore site because the wind conditions in the area match those of offshore locations.

Bioenergie Nord said it believed the turbines would gather a greater energy yield due to its 154-metre diametre rotor. The turbine's tip height reaches 195 metres, using 75-metre blades.

The two turbines will be commissioned before the end of the year and Siemens has agreed to provide 15-years servicing to the site.

Dong Energy installed the first Siemens 6MW to be used at a commerical site in August. Dong is installing 35 turbines at the 210MW Westermost Rough project in the UK North Sea.
