Longyuan commissions first project outside China

CANADA: China's largest wind developer, Longyuan Power, has commissioned the 100MW Dufferin wind farm in Ontario, its first wind project in outside of China.

Dufferin uses GE 1.6MW turbines

The 100MW Dufferin wind farm, located at Melancthon, about 120 kilometres north of Toronto, is expected to generate 300GWh.

China Longyuan bought a majority share in the project in July 2011 from from Farm Owned Power (Melancthon).

The project was promised a 20-year feed-in tariff by by the Ontario government, leaving the developer with  an estimated 16% of internal rate of return after tax.

Initiated in November 2010, the Dufferin wind farm is the first overseas project to be funded, built and operated by a Chinese power company. It uses GE 1.6MW turbines.
