Areva will continue servicing the six M500-116 5MW turbines at Germany's first offshore wind project for five more years. The contract begins with immediate effect, running until 2019.
The turbines will be monitored from Areva's base in Bremerhaven, while the service team will work out of Emden in Lower Saxony, Areva said.
Alpha Ventus is located 45 kilometres off the German coast. As well as the six Areva turbines, it also uses six Senvion (formerly Repower) 5MW turbines.
In 2013, generation from the project fell to 42.7% — down 12% on the preceding three years.
Alpha Ventus was commissioned in April 2010 by DOTI — a joint venture by energy utilities EWE, E.on and Vattenfall.
