K2 will assist on the design, engineering, and project development on the patented concept by DBD Systems.

The consultancy will also help draw up a demonstrator development strategy "for the intended demonstration project" at the Dounreay Floating Offshore Wind Deployment Centre in Scotland.

The 30MW test facility is located 11 kilometres off Scotland's north coast. K2 said up to five floating platforms could be tested at the site at an average of 85-metre water depths.

DBD Systems is partnering with two engineering firms on the platform, the Netherlands-based Mocean Offshore and US company EwindFarm.

According to Mocean, a concept is under development in order to be tested at a project in Hawaii, US. A prototype scale model of the design was trialled at the Marin centre in the Netherlands in June.
