Iberdrola completes first Kenyan project

KENYA: Iberdrola has completed the construction of the Ngong II wind farm in Kenya, its first in the country.

The 13.6MW project, which is located 30 kilometres from Nairobi, consists of 16 Gamesa G52 turbines. It was commissioned by the Kenya Electricity Generating Company, a state-owned utility.

Ngong II is an expansion to the existing Ngong Hills project that came online in 2009. The project is part of a wider initiative that includes four substations and 15 kilometres of power lines.

Iberdrola is building a second project in Kenya. The Kinangop wind farm will have a capacity of 61MW from 38 GE 1.6MW turbines.

The biggest project in Kenya is the upcoming 300MW Lake Turkana wind farm, which is currently under construction. The developer is currently in the process of installing cabling.
