WindEnergy 2014: Siemens launches remote diagnostics centre

GERMANY: Siemens launched its new remote diagnostics centre handling 7,500 turbines at a ceremony at the WindEnergy Hamburg conference.

Speaking to Windpower TV at the launch, Tim Holt Siemens service renewables CEO said that the centre in Brande, Denmark,  will see turbines essentially scheduling their own repairs, ordering their own parts and even fixing themselves.

Servicing is becoming increasingly competitive as warranties expire. Asked about competition from third party companies, Holt said he believed OEMs had an advantage.

He said: "We've been working with the turbines for over 30 years so there's a wealth of data and knowledge we have. We have the design knowledge and the maintenance knowledge and if you combine that, that's a powerful capabilty."
