GERMANY: The BorWin1 transmission system should be reconnected this week, a month later than planned, allowing power to be transmitted from Bard Offshore 1 once more.

Grid operator Tennet said the platform would be able to transfer offshore wind power following months of connection issues.

In July, Tennet said it planned to reconnect BorWin1 by the end of August 2014.

Since the beginning of this year, BorWin1 has suffered from several unplanned outages, including problems with the seawater system and a fire on the converter platform.

As a result, turbines at the 400MW Bard offshore 1 project have been unable to transmit power to the grid.

Bard Offshore 1 is owned by project company Ocean Breeze, which in turn is owned by HypoVereinsbank, part of Italian bank UniCredit.

Tennet, Ocean Breeze and network connection contractor ABB have been working to find out the causes of the problems and carry out preventative measures.

Under German energy laws, Bard's owners can expect some compensation if connection is lost for a long period of time.

Bard offshore 1 is located 100 kilometres north-west of the island of Borkum, off the north-west German coast. It was originally connected in August 2013.
