Vestas picked for 200MW Minnesota project

UNITED STATES: Algonquin Power and Utilities has chosen Vestas turbines for a newly-acquired 200MW project in Minnesota.

Algonquin has chosen Vestas V100 turbines for the Odell project

The Canadian utility said that Vestas will install 100 V100-2MW turbines at the Odell development, which is due to come online in Q4 2015.

However, the Danish manufacturer would not confirm the deal. In a statement it said: "Today, there is information in the market regarding a 200 MW project in the USA.

"As soon as the project translates into a firm and unconditional order in accordance with Vestas’ definition, Vestas will disclose a company announcement about this."

Algonquin bought the project from Excel Energy last week for an undisclosed fee. The project has a 20-year power purchase agreement with a subsidiary of Xcel Energy.

Project construction costs are estimated to be $313.5 million. Algonquin said it expects the project to qualify for the production tax credit subsidy, implying work had already started at the project at the end-2013.
