UK: Electricity from Dong Energy's 210MW Westermost Rough project has started being transmitted just weeks after the first Siemens 6MW turbine was installed at the site.

The project located eight kilometers of the UK's east coast in the North Sea, is the first commercial project to use the Siemens 6MW offshore turbine.

Danish developer Dong installed the first of 35 6MW turbines less than a month ago.

Installation at the project should be completed by the middle of 2015, with commissioning expected later in the year.

UK energy regulator Ofgem has shortlisted four companies to become the offshore transmission owner for the Westermost Rough project. A final decision is due next year.

Westermost Rough is jointly owned by Dong (50%), the Green Investment Bank (25%) and the Marubeni Corporation (25%).
