SSE will end its involvement with the North Sea project once its joint venture partner RWE makes a final investment decision. Until then, RWE will be solely responsible for funding and progressing the project.
The two companies currently hold a 50:50 share in the project's development. SSE said RWE are currently working on finding a new partner for the project and hope to announce one by the end of the year.
SSE announced its decision to scale back on its offshore activities in March.
The March announcement was made after two of its offshore projects, Galloper and the 1GW Beatrice projects failed to pass the UK government's preliminary affordability test.
SSE said it would also end it investment in the 690MW Islay project and limit involvement with consortiums developing the 9GW Dogger Bank and 3.5GW Forth of Firth zones.
