Bilfinger said the contract is worth more than EUR 100 million, and that it has started work on preparing for the project. It expects the job to be completed in February 2016.
Ramboll has already been contracted to design the foundations, while EEW has been chosen to manufacture the structures. Bilfinger said will use its Hydro Sound Damper system to help reduce the noise pollution to which marine animals are exposed during the construction phase.
The project is being developed by a partnership between Swedish utility Vattenfall and German public utility, Stadtwerke München, in waters of up to 34 metres, at a location 90 kilometres west of the island of Sylt in the German North Sea.
Earlier this month, the developers made a final decision to go ahead with the project, which will see them invest SEK 11 billion (EUR 1.2 billion). At the same time they confirmed that the development will be made up of 72 Siemens 4MW turbines.
