The Hywind installation challenge invites any interested company, whether it has offshore experience or not, to contribute ideas to erecting the floating project with a view to making it available in other global markets.
"To make Hywind available in more markets and even more cost efficient, we would like to improve assembly and installation," the challenge said.
Statoil is currently being developed at a site off the northeast Scottish coast where five 6MW turbines will be installed in water depths of 100 metres.
The Norwegian firm has outlined three main challenges within the project they wish companies to help with: Assembly of the structures, transportation, and maintenance.
Businesses or academics who think they can help are asked to submit their ideas to the Statoil Innovate portal by 15 September.
