Rampion gets the green light

UK: The 700MW Rampion project, off England's south coast, has been given the go-ahead by the UK Government.

Rampion will be located 13 kilometres from the UK's south coast

Developer E.on will now be able to begin construction, expected in 2015, at the site 13 kilometres from the coastline, near Brighton. It is expected to come online in 2018.

The project underwent revisions during the planning stage but will feature between 100 and 175 turbines, depending on size. It was originally planned to use 195 turbines.

Last year, E.on was forced to temporarily withdraw its planning application for the Rampion project after it was revealed some authorities affected by the development were not fully consulted on the plans.

The German based utility will seek a final investment decision and is eligible to apply for the Contract for Difference government subsidy.
