The company will supply 30 3MW turbines to the Itarema group of wind projects in Ceara state. Delivery is expected in 2015.

According to the Spanish manufacturer, 21 of the turbines will be the AW116/3000. The remaining turbines will be the AW125/3000 model.

In a statement, Acciona said the turbines would be manufactured close to the project site to fulfil Brazil's local content requirements.

Rio Energy has also signed a letter of intent with Acciona to buy a further 39 3MW turbines to be used at the Itarema project.

In January, Acciona won the contract to supply 31 of the 3MW turbines to another project in north-east Brazil for a consortium made up of Voltalia, Chesf and Encalso.
