Since its construction at the Hamburg port in August last year, it has produced 7 million kWh of energy. "Our target is to produce 8.7 million kWh within a year, and after nine months we expect it will reach that target if not exceed it. This turbine is producing almost 50% of our energy needs," said Gordon Fria, Eurogate's renewable energy project coordinator.
The turbine was shipped to the port in August, and was caught up in local flooding, which delayed the installation by two weeks. "But when it was brought onto the site, it was installed in only three days, because of the Lego-like construction," said Fria.
The turbine is one of three at the port. The other two, also Nordex turbines, are owned by Hamburg port, as part of a Smart Port Energy project.
Here is a video of its construction.
