The companies will work together on a seven-year investigation in an area of the German North Sea near the East Frisian Islands.
The Umweltuntersuchung Nördlich Borkum joint venture has been formed because all three companies are looking to develop offshore projects in the region.
The decision to work together, rather than each carrying out an individual assessment, is part of the drive by developers to push down the price of offshore wind.
Once complete, the database of information gathered by the joint venture will be made available to the German Federal Maritime and Hydrographic Agency.
Dong believes that the move may cut the environmental costs of projects by as much as 50%.
