London Array production totals 1.5TWh

UK: The 630MW London Array wind farm produced 1.5TWh of energy in its first full winter of operation, with a capacity factor of 56%.

In the six months from October 2013 to March 2014, the 175 Siemens 3.6MW turbines produced 1.5TWh of electricity in wind speeds of up to 11.8 m/s.

The project, which is owned by Dong Energy, E.on and investment company Masdar, cited "near-perfect" conditions over particularly windy the December and January months. On a single day (6 January), the project produced 15GWh.

General manager Mike O'Hare said: "Our priority now is to build upon this promising start to safely and efficiently complete our routine maintenance and balance of construction work over summer, while further improving reliability and repair times."

Wind speed across the period averaged 9.8 m/s — relatively high for the location off the east coast of Engand.

London Array reported a total of 2TWh of electricity was produced in 2013 despite losing a turbine for 100 days in the summer of last year due to gearbox issues.

Plans to extend the project by 240MW were scrapped in February. The decision was made following "a review by the consortium members of their respective portfolios".
