Atkins wins Dudgeon foundation design work

UK: British engineering firm Atkins is to design the foundations for Statkraft and Statoil's Dudgeon offshore wind farm in UK North Sea waters.

The project is located off England's east coast

The contract covers all design and engineering services for the monopile foundations for the Siemens 6MW turbines that will be installed on the 400MW project.

Work will include structure design, structure analysis and drawing production as well as geotechnical engineering.

Atkins said it will also provide "management assistance" during the manufacture and installation of the foundations.

The foundation design may prove a more demanding prospect than those for many previous projects due to the size of the turbines and the greater distance from shore, with the project located 32 kilometres out to sea.

Earlier in March, Seaway Heavy Lifting (SHL) was awarded the contract to install the foundations for the project.

Dudgeon is still subject to a final investment decision by its owners, set to be made in the third quarter.
