Vestas maintained its position as the number one turbine manufacturer with 13% of the market, but its US rival GE dropped from second in 2012, to sixth in 2013 with less than half the installations of Vestas and a 4.9% share.

Chinese manufacturers soared last year, with over half of the top 15 companies coming from the country. However, only Goldwind with a 10.3% share gained a position in the top five and most were heavily dependent on the buoyancy of the Chinese market.

But there were also winners in Europe, with Enercon and Nordex securing some of the highest market share gains, boosted by a record year for added capacity in Germany in 2013.

Enercon came in third, with 10.1% of the market, while Nordex crept into the top ten with 3.4%.

As expected, Siemens maintained its clear market leadership in the offshore wind sector. Including onshore sales, the German manufacturer had an 8% market share, making it the fourth largest.
