This latest announcement means that the certification of the turbine, of which an onshore version has also been developed, is now complete.
The machine was granted design certification by DNV in late 2012.
A prototype of the machine was commissioned last July in the Canary Islands, and Gamesa signed a 285MW framework agreement with Finnish developer TuuliWatti covering the onshore version of the new turbine in November.
In January, Gamesa and Areva announced they are to form a joint venture for the development of offshore turbines. The company has agreed to pool resources in order to manufacture 5MW and 8MW turbines.
