The 130 monopiles for the 468MW project will be produced in Rostock in Germany by EEW, while the transition pieces will be built at Blandt's facilities in Aalborg, Denmark.

Construction of the components will begin in early 2015. Once completed the foundations will be shipped to the harbour of New Bedford, Massachusetts, which is being used as a base for the project.

Cape Wind will be the first large-scale offshore wind farm in the US if it is completed, and will feature Siemens 3.6MW turbines.

The developer, Cape Wind Associates, claims it did enough to have officially started construction on the project before the end of 2013. This would mean that the project would qualify for subsidies in the form of production tax credits.
