Taiwan sets wind targets for 2014 and 2015

TAIWAN: Taiwan's ministry of economic affairs has set the wind power development targets up to 814MW for onshore wind power and 15MW for offshore wind power in 2014 and 2015, respectively.

Additionally, the ministry has set 2030 targets of 1200MW and 3000MW of onshore and offshore wind.

The recent targets upgrade is included in the "Amendment to The Renewable Energy Development Target" drafted by the ministry's Bureau of Energy.

In October, the ministry and local firms Formosa Wind Power Ltd and Fuhai Wind Farm Corporation signed agreements for the installation of offshore turbines along Taiwan's western coastline.

Specifically, four to six offshore wind turbines will be set up before 2015 for testing, while by 2020, Formosa is expecting to install 36 units off the coast of Miaoli County and Fuhai 30 off the coast of Changhua County.

The Bureau of Energy predicts renewable energy in Taiwan by 2030 will reach 25% of total renewable energies grid capacity.
