Nordex wins 33MW order from Wpd

FINLAND: Wpd has handed Nordex a 33MW deal for a project on the west coast of Finland.

A Delta series turbine being installed

The contract is for 11 N117/3000 Delta turbines to go to the Makikangas wind farm, which is less than 2 kilometres from the coast. According to Nordex the location has an average wind speed of 8 metres per second.

Makikangas is Wpd's first wind farm in Finland, although in 2011 the German developer received authorisation by the Finnish authorities to potentially develop the 600MW offshore Suurkiekka project.

This is Nordex's third Finnish order in the last six months. In the latter half of 2013, it won deals from Finnish wealth management company Taaleritehdas and Impax Asset Investment for a combined capacity of around 47MW.

Both of these latter turbine purchases were for the low wind 2.4MW version of the same machine. The Delta turbine is predominantly designed for medium wind speed sites, although a 3.3MW high wind version is also available.

The machine was officially launched at last year's EWEA conference in Vienna.
