The sale is part of a master supply agreement with EDF announced in September for multiple US projects of up to 750MW. However, Vestas said that as it has already secured 300MW under the agreement, the upper limit will be increased to 1.2GW.
Both projects, the 100MW Hereford 1 and 200MW Longhorn North wind farms, are located in the Texas Panhandle. The Hereford 1 project will feature 50 V100-2MW turbines, while the Longhorn project will include 100 units of the same turbine.
The first 80MW sale for the Longhorn project was announced in September.
Installation of the turbines and the commissioning of both projects is expected in the second half of 2014.
The blades, towers and nacelles will be made at Vestas' factories in Colorado. The company announced in November that it would be hiring "hundreds" of people at the plants to deal with increased demand. But it was later revealed that the jobs would only be temporary.
