Goldwind wins 51MW deal in Cuba

CHINA: Goldwind International has signed a 51MW turbine supply contract with Energoimport, a subsidiary of Union Electrica (UNE) in Cuba.

The deal is for Goldwind's 1.5MW turbine

Under the contract, Goldwind will deliver 34 1.5MW direct-drive turbines and also provide additional services including turbine transportation, installation, trial operations. There is also a two-year service contract.

The turbines will be delivered to the La Herradura project is located in the northwest of Las Tunas province, 700 kilometres from La Habana, Cuba's capital.

The region has a marine climate and is a Class IIA wind speed area with an average speed of approximately 7.5 m/s. To handle this the turbine will have a 77-metre rotor.

All turbines are expected to be delivered by the end of 2014, installed by June 2015, and connected to the local electric grid by September 2015. The power generated by this project will exceed 1% of Cuba's total power generation, according to Goldwind.

This is the second order Goldwind has won in Cuba after the order of six 750 kW turbines in 2009.

By June 30, 2013, Goldwind has delivered nearly 450MW of wind turbines to overseas markets.
