Monopiles installed at Baltic 2

GERMANY: Engineering contractor Ballast Nedam Offshore has installed all of the monopile foundations at the German offshore wind project Baltic 2.

The heavy-lifting vessel Svanen installed the monopiles
The 39 monopiles were installed over the last two months, and the work was completed with minor delays due to two major storms in the region.

The monopiles, as well as 41 jackets, will have Siemens 3.6MW turbines installed on top of them.

The foundations were transported from EWW's fabrication yard in Rostock, where they were built. At the offshore site the monopiles were upended and installed by Ballast Nedam's heavy-lift vessel Svanen.

The wind farm in the Baltic Sea is being developed by a joint venture between construction company Hochtief and geotechnical offshore contractor GeoSea.

After the installation works at the Baltic 2 offshore wind farm the Svanen vessel will head for the installation of foundations at the Butendiek offshore wind farm in the German North Sea.
